Leona™ SG series has high strength and stiffness, and suppresses changes in physical properties after absorbing water. It is more durable than the typical zinc / aluminum die-cast.
Feature
- High strength and stiffness retention under wet condition
- Aesthetic surface appearance
- Low odor, low VOC, low fogging
Usage
- End plate
- Room mirror bracket
- Water/oil pump
The LEONA™ SG series is suitable for a wide range of products and applications including automobile interior and mechanical parts, household appliances, and home fittings.

High strength and stiffness retention under wet condition
PA is a material that decreases in strength and stiffness, and increases in toughness upon absorption of water. The LEONA™ SG series is resistant to strength reductions after water absorption. With PA, changes in dimensions also need to be skillfully handled in addition to preserving the strength and stiffness after water absorption, while the LEONA™ SG series also resists dimensional changes after water absorption.
A wider range of product designs are possible by preventing changes in material properties due to changes in the usage environment of the product.
*The LEONA™ SG105(reinforced with 50% glass fiber (GF)) exhibits a decrease in flexural modulus of only 6% after water absorption, which compares to the 23% decrease for PA66 with the same GF50% reinforcement.
Aesthetic surface appearance
Painting options can be omitted using the LEONA™ SG series. The part can immediately be adopted after injection molding without going through the secondary painting process. Omitting the painting process also allows cost reduction which is an important factor in all industries.
In general grades of PA66, which contain a large amount of glass fiber to provide strength and rigidity, the glass fiber floats to the surface. This gives the surface a crumbly appearance and makes it difficult to use in products that are exposed to the human eye. The LEONA™ SG series, however, does not show GF floating and produces a glossy molded product. Also, since good-looking parts can be obtained even at low injection molding speeds, a wide range of production conditions can be handled.
End plate
For battery end plates—positioned at either end of a battery module to compress and hold in place a stack of battery cells—Asahi Kasei recommends this series. These materials offer good moldability, feature high strength, high rigidity, and good heat resistance.
Room mirror bracket
A component used to fix a mirror for checking rearward vision.
In recent years, housings for forward detection ADAS components are also integrated. High appearance without coloring and rigidity to prevent blurring are required.
Water/oil pump
LEONA™ SG104 polyamide resin is an alloy grade made from semi-aromatic polyamide and polyamide 66.
This material exhibits low dimensional variation and degradation of physical properties upon water absorption. Its key features include high specific strength, attractive appearance, and excellent fluidity. Compared to polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), a material commonly used for these applications, LEONA™ SG104 generates less gas during injection molding and exhibits better moldability.
