Under the Hood

While the shift to battery electric vehicles is accelerating, internal combustion engines will continue to play a major role in the coming decades. In addition to downsizing and weight reduction, the need for noise reduction is growing.

Regulations regarding reducing CO2 emissions and car noise levels have been significantly pushing the demand for new and innovative lightweight materials as a substitute for metal and aluminum parts. At the same time, these materials have to live up to the high safety standards in the automotive industry and provide solutions to the fluid and tightening regulations worldwide. Our high perfomance plastics will become a key in this field, contributing to a reduction of CO2 emissions of conventional passenger cars with an internal combustion engine.

LEONA™

polyamide (PA) is the ideal partner to integrate plastics into automotive exterior applications and help OEMs achieve their goals for durability, NVH, and customer satisfaction. This material possesses high heat resistance, mechanical properties, and resistance against oil and chemicals – all while meeting ICE-related requirements. Applications where Leona excels under the hood include engine head covers, radiator support brackets, chain guides and more.

Thermylene™

is both an economical alternative and an award-winning chemically coupled glass-fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) selection. The enhanced compound properties yield an attractive balance of cost and performance compared to conventional engineering thermoplastics. Applications where Thermylene can support under the hood projects include front-end modules, battery trays, fan shrouds, and intake manifolds.
