Cutting only direct reflected light
One problem of DMS, which have become increasingly popular in recent years, is that reflected light becomes noise during imaging of the driver, reducing the recognition rate of the driver state. WGF™ uses its polarization properties to control specular reflectioin light which becomes noise during sensing.
Easy workability
Since WGF™ is a thin and flexible film, small pieces of it can be easily processed into various profiles, and it can easily be used for curved surface design.
Heat resistance stability
Unlike conventional polarizers made by extention, WGF™ is manufactured by a nanoimprint process; therefore it has high heat resistance stability (in terms of optical properties and dimensions). In addition, since WGF™ is reflective, it absorbs or stores little heat.
DMS (IR sensor)
One problem of DMS, which have become increasingly popular in recent years, is that specular reflectioin light becomes noise during imaging of the driver, reducing the recognition rate of the driver state. Reflected light, which becomes noise, has many optical elements that vibrate (or are polarized) in a certain direction. Using WGF™ as a filter for the light source and the camera allows for the elimination of only the optical elements, enabling the capture of clear images.
HUD
Using WGF™ in the ways described below can improve the heat resistance of various units of automobiles.
・Installing WGF™ between the backlight and the LCD (liquid crystal display) helps prevent heat increase caused by the absorption of S-waves by the LCD polarizer.
・Installing WGF™ in the light path after the LCD and on the hot and cold mirrors helps prevent heat increase.
・Use WGF™ as a PBS–polarizing beam splitter. (Design which use both S and P images is enabled.)
Example of use as optical compenents
WGF™ is used not only for automotive applications, but also as optical components for AR (Augmented Reality) or VR (Virtual Reality) the development of which has been progressing in recent years.
