Powder for 3D printers
Leona™ Powder for PBF
(under development)
Asahi Kasei 3D printer materials
Polyamide 66-based powder under development for Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) 3D printers. It's high plasticity and heat resistance contributes to significant design freedom by materializing unprecedented shapes.
QWhat type of Powder Bed Fusion is used?
QHow many types of colored powder are available?
QWhat kind of material is "polyamide 66-based powder"?
With 3D printing it is possible to mold complicated shapes like hollow parts and thin-walled parts that are difficult to achieve by injection molding. Leona™ Powder therefore is suitable for 3D printing of vehicle interior parts.

Wide molding window
During molding with a 3D printer, it is important to maintain a molten state (the intermediate state between the melting point and solidification point of the resin) to control the warpage and dimensional accuracy of the molded product. Leona™ powder for PBF has a wide molding window, allowing us to expect improved molding stability and design freedom.
Air ventilation parts
Air ventilation parts that blows cold or hot air is composed of multiple resin parts and requires an assembly process. In addition, higher heat resistance is required compared to the most of other vehicle interior parts. By utilizing the 3D printer technology it will be possible to eliminate the assembly process (which leads to significant cost down). Since it has higher heat resistance than polyamide 12, the production of thinner or smaller parts can be achieved.
Contribution to the environment
Leona™ powder for PBF, a new polyamide product, can reduce the weight of parts if it is used as the raw material. Furthermore, it enables the reduction of raw materials, inventories, and waste. Leona™ powder for PBF contributes to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): (7) Energy, (9) Innovation, (12) Production/Consumption, and (13) Climate Change.
