LEONA™ SV series is an engineering plastic with high heat resistance, strength, and rigidity. It is suitable for not only mechanical parts, but also for engine peripheral parts.
LEONA™ SV series is an engineering plastic with high heat resistance, strength, and rigidity. It is suitable for not only mechanical parts, but also for engine peripheral parts.
High attenuation performance
In recent automobiles, quietness is required for a comfortable space. Therefore, it is important to suppress the "sound" generated by mechanical parts. Since LEONA™ SV series has improved sound suppression effects, it contributes to the creation of a comfortable in-vehicle space.
High strength
In pursuit of weight reduction of automobiles, it is necessary to utilize the right material in the right place. LEONA™ SV series can adjust the inclusion of glass up to 60% within its raw material. This characteristic enables the selection of materials having suitable strength for various applications such as mechanical parts and covers for automobile parts, which leads to the weight reduction of automobiles.
High heat resistance
While a car is driven, the temperature in the engine compartment becomes high, which requires the parts used to be highly heat-resistant and durable. LEONA™ SV series is as heat-resistant and durable as conventional polyamide resin which is already widely used for parts in engine compartment.
Cylinder head cover
The cylinder head cover of an engine prevents oil splash. Noise radiation caused by membrane vibration from car engine can be a problem. However, the noise radiation can be reduced by the use of a highly attenuating material like LEONA™ SV series. In addition, since the cylinder head cover is mounted on the upper part of the engine, its environmental temperature is higher than that of most of other parts in the engine compartment. Therefore, the cover needs to have good resistance to heat aging.
Oil pan
An oil pan is a part that is installed at the bottom of the engine for the purpose of storing engine oil. In many cases, oil pans have a box shape. Although they are prone to cause membrane vibration, the vibration can be improved by the use of a highly attenuating material like LEONA™ SV series. In addition, since hot oil returns from the engine to the oil pan immediately after the engine is stopped, the oil pan is required to have high heat resistance and oil resistance.
Timing chain case
This is a case for the timing chain and prevents oil from splashing. Auxiliary equipment such as pumps may be attached to the chain case. Therefore, the chain case is required to be strong and rigid. In addition, since measures against membrane vibration are required, using a highly attenuating material like LEONA™ SV series for the chain case is effective for vibration reduction.
