Exhibiting at the Battery Expo 2024, MICHIGAN USA (Oct 7-10, 2024)

Sep 12, 2024

Asahi Kasei America, Inc. will exhibit at the Battery Show North America, and Electric & hybrid vehicle technology expo (Oct 7-10, 2024) in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Our booth will be located in the Huntington Place(Exhibit Hall A-C) at #3807.

At this year’s show, Asahi Kasei will showcase an array of innovative products for EV battery and electric vehicles to enhance your current offerings and provide tailored solutions to your needs that include:

LASTAN™ TS series (Nonwoven Fabric for EV Battery Thermal Runaway Protection):
We will be showcasing our new material, the LASTAN™ TS Series, which features flame resistance and blast resistance and will be available starting this fall. This product is an enhancement of the standard grade LASTAN™, made from special acrylic fibers, with the addition of a unique flame retardant. While retaining the strengths of the original product, such as a high Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) and excellent processability, it has been upgraded to improve its flame resistance and blast resistance. The material, produced by calcining the special acrylic fibers at 200-300°C in air, is a non-mineral-based material that has garnered attention for its outstanding flame resistance, blast resistance, and insulation properties, as well as its superior heat resistance and processability. We will be presenting physical samples and providing technical explanations by expert staff at the show.
This product has been selected for the Product Showcase at The Battery Show, and we will be conducting a live demonstration at the Asahi Kasei booth on Wednesday, October 9th, at 11:30 AM.

High Ionic Conductive Electrolyte:
We are also planning to exhibit the technology behind our High Ionic Conductive Electrolyte, which was successfully demonstrated in a lithium-ion battery proof of concept this June, as announced in our press release. This electrolyte, containing acetonitrile as a solvent, boasts exceptionally high ionic conductivity that is difficult to achieve with existing electrolytes. Our proprietary electrolyte composition technology and electrode/electrolyte interface control technology have enabled us to address the challenges of current LIBs by achieving both “improved output at low temperatures” and “enhanced durability at high temperatures.” These advancements are expected to enable higher output, faster charging, and contribute to reducing the size of batteries in electric vehicles, increasing battery capacity through thicker electrodes, and lowering costs.

LIB Separators (Dry and Wet Processes: Celgard® and HIPORE™):
Battery separators are a key focus for Asahi Kasei, and we will introduce Celgard (dry process), based in North Carolina, as well as HIPORE (wet process), which will be manufactured at our newly announced separator plant in Canada, with expert staff on hand to provide details.

High-performance, engineered polymers and chemically coupled polypropylene resins
Asahi Kasei Plastics North America, Inc. (“APNA”) is a leading manufacturer of engineered resins in North America, will highlight technologies for EV battery materials includes XYRON (modified polyphenylene ether), Thermylene (specialty chemically coupled polypropylene), LEONA (nylon 6/6, 6/6+6i). These products meet customers’ needs in an industry that has become increasingly prominent within automotive manufacturing processes.

Cellulose Nanofiber (CNF) 3D shaped Acoustic Material:
This is a soundproofing material designed for use in EV components and other applications, and this will be its first exhibition in North America. By leveraging the dense, highly synthetic porous membrane characteristics of CNF, this thin material achieves high sound insulation and absorption properties while allowing for three-dimensional design. This makes it suitable as a soundproofing material in spaces where integrated molding with components is required, contributing to space-saving solutions. We will provide a simple demonstration to experience the soundproofing performance of this product at the exhibition.
